Working the graveyard shift, I know I will be sleep deprived.
I made a promise to MHA that I will not take part in Swim if I think it will endanger myself.
Finished my work at 7am, had a quick bite at McD and off to Tanjung Beach, Sentosa I went.
Met up with the guys after body marking and baggage deposit, we were ready to go for a warm-up when Sean reported that he got multiple encounters with the sea bugs.
We decided to skip the warm-up! =D
Darn, I am in Wave 1. The wave that will sweep all the sea bugs =D
Race starts promptly at 8:30am.
Started with freestyle but turned to breaststroke after the first buoy.
The last freestylist pulled away and I started wondering if I am the last swimmer. =D
The U-turn took a long time to appear and when it did, I noticed only 2 swimmers behind me. =p
Despite having 90+ swimmers ahead of me, the sheltered bay still seems to be infested with seabugs. It made its presence felt during the entire race. First loop to the last loop.
They attacked everywhere, your arms, legs, your face, your lips, any bare skin they can find.
Your body learn to ignore the seabugs and you find them irritating. =D
Coming out of the water after the first loop I took a gulp of the isotonic water and back into the water I went.
The outgoing leg feel a lot easier than the first leg.
The weariness of the night seems to have worn off.
Completing the second loop, I am still feeling good.
Haha... the more tired I am, the more energetic I seems to get. =D
I am distinctively aware of the paddle of the canoeist who will use it occasionally to steady his canoe.
True enough, I have to lift my hand on the third loop to shield it from hitting me on the head.
During the third and fourth loop, I started to fear if I will get the energy sapping feeling of last year's race.
Am glad that the demon wasn't resurrected. =p
The compression on the quads truly helped!
Keke, technology has truly help this weak swimmer. =D
I was surprised to notice that the goggles has not fog nor leak over the entire swim.
I had clear visbility and near full vison of my surroundings during the swim.
Wah... a few goggles are going to retire real soon. =p
The last 300m of the race has to be the most challenging of the entire race.
Getting tired, I began to pull hard and glide long.
Haha... turned out to be an advantage to me as I started to overtake swimmers. =D
Coming out of the water, I turned left and was surprised to find the legs to run to the finishing point 50m away. =D
Running past the Finish Line, I looked up and was surprised to see 1:20 on the clock!!!
That is 10 minutes faster than the 3km that I did 2 years ago!
This completion truly made up for my DNF disappointment last year.
This has been an interesting year for me so far.
After a long chit chat session, the guys proceed for home and I began the second part of the plan. =D
Changed into my running gear and off I went for a short run. =)
Had a quick shower after the run and off I went to collect 3 race packs at 2 different locations. =D
