Day 196 : 100 Plus Passion Run 2011

Reach race site at 4:45pm.
Had a hard time locating the Start Point.
Then it was a tough time getting to the Start Point.
The whole darn place is barricaded!!!
Jumped over several barriers just to get to the Start Point.
The third and final wave for 25km has already started and was well under way when I crossed the timing mat.

The run started on a good note.
I have learnt to run at my own pace and not get tempted to start with the crowd's pace.
Taking BFG's advice, I started doing the Run-Walk strategy.
It is not consistent, but I kept to the plan of running for 5 minutes minimum before walking.
For the first 10km, it was extremely hard to walk.
But I guess we always have to look at the big picture (the full running distance).
For the next 10km, it was pure endurance trying to run for 5 minutes. =p
It is amazing to look at the results though. How much distance you can cover within that 5 minutes, how many people you manage to overtake.

Distance markers are one of the most accurate that I have seen so far.
My Garmin Distance Alerts beeped within 30m of each marker.

Weather was hot and humid.
I am glad that I bought my visor along.
After 5km, with the sun behind me, I started feeling awful though.
Turning the visor rear works wonders.
It could be psychological, but I feel more wind on my face which really helps. =)
At the 10km marker, the visor ended up on the race belt and it work wonders again.
Dun ask me why, but a visor that I used to hate really helps now that I know how to use it to my advantage. ;)

Running onto the Changi Coastal, a lady was surrounded by medical staff and runners.
There are a lot of mineral water bottles around her.
The runners, volunteers have probably been dousing her with lots of water while waiting for the ambulance to arrive.
She is lying on her side motionless.
Her eyes is wide open. She looks terrifed...
It is a scary thing to be awake and alert yet having absolutely no control of your body...

Was elated when I finally see the U-turn at the 15.5km mark.
The Run-Walk strategy is still working. =)
Cramps is threatening to ruin the race.
For 3.5 years, I have never encountered cramps.
Yet for the past 9 months I have encounter numerous cramps...
What went wrong?

Things started getting awry at 19km.
Body is threatening to shut down...
Argh...Could not run anymore.
Walked for a long distance before I managed to run.
Most of the runners around me are doing the run-as-much-as-you-can-before-walking strategy like me. =)

A few runners who has consistently been overtaking me multiple times on the run serves as motivation. TJC, Goddess 5k Duo and Mizuno.
Goddess 5k Duo is the hardest to beat.
Managed to beat them at the last 500m. =)

Completed the run in 4h04m36s.

Won't say I am disappointed, just glad that I managed to complete the run.
