16th December 2011 Musings

Another day of non-exercise... Haiz...

=====

The race is still very fresh in my mind.

I think some happenings are worth mentioning.

In the late of the night, this wonderful family on the Run Course made the competitors ran through a Finish Line made up of Christmas lights and announcing "Daniel Cheng, You Are An Ironman!"

The entire family (including relatives, I guess) is there from the time I did my first loop right up till my last loop.
They are out on their deck chairs and BBQ set.
They were so thoughtful as to ensure that the BBQ smell dun reach us.

I have a habit of wearing my run bib behind me.
The kids run behind me to check my bib number and the adults search for my name online.
I am truly touched.

There is also a 怪叔叔 who was out on the Bike Course cheering us on and later appear on the Run Course. =)
I mentioned to him : "You have a long day!"
He responded : "Your day is longer than mine!" =D

The wonderful hospitality displayed by the whole community is awesome!
It just made you wanna go back and enjoy the whole atmosphere again!

======

Even though the volunteers have a long day (It is telling from their weary looks), they make sure that you get anything you want.
Vegemite bread spread was prepared but I dare not take them as I had not taste Brovil for a long long long time.
My ultimate respect to the volunteers!
We may be your Champions, but you are our Heros!

======

My sister walked the last 10km with me.
We did keep a distance in case of any officials lurking around. =p
But it will not be hard to tell... =D

She got a fright when my timing stopped at the 19.5km mark.
She looked around the Run Course without being able to locate me.
Luckily she found Ivan who told her that I am still out of the Run Course.
Thanks, Ivan!
Thanks, Sis!

======

RL who completed two Ironman races commented, "Suddenly everyone I know is an Ironman" =D
Haha... I am not surprised.
We have so many mutual friends who completed IMWA 2011!

Which sets me thinking. =D
FOTR had Ironmen in Alex, Chek, Gabriel, Gim Hong, KC and Mike (I may have missed a few) before IMWA 2011.
Now, We have more than a dozen Ironmen!!! =D
Newly minted FOTR-ers : BFG, Sean, Ivan, Chris, YP, Kristal, Michelle, Kia Liang and Yours Truly! =D
Well done, guys!

======

Finally a Apparel Roll of Honour =D

Garmin FR310XT (Which last the entire 16.5hrs and a little more! Awesome! =) You made my day!)

Phiten and Grounded : It works!

Nutrition : GU Roctane (This gel rocks!!! It is double the price of a normal GU Gel, but it is a real booster!)
GU Espresso Love (Haha, first time ever I tried this flavour. It tasted awesome!
Yeah, I broke the cardinal rule again. I tried something new on race day. =p )

Swim : Xterra Vector Pro 2
AquaSphere Kayenne

Bike : NeilPryde Alize
Fulcrum Zero Racing Wheels
BnB Helmet
Adidas T-Sight
FOTR Long Sleeved Jersey
Louis Garneau Airator Gloves
De Soto 400-Mile Bike Short
CompresSport Calf Guards
Louis Garneau CFS-150

Run : Under Armour Run Visor
JoyRiders Jersey
Skins Long Compression Tights
New Balance MR1190

In essence, as BFG as always reminded me, race in what is most comfortable for each discipline.
Ironman is too long a distance to race in a tri suit. (We are not pros lah.) =D
It did help plenty in my race!
MegaTri can attest to that.
