The morning call rang at 4:30am...
WTF, I missed my half hour of extra sleep.
Washed up and had brekkie before prepping for the ride.
The ride started promptly at 7am and it was a quick start.
The front pack of Eugene and Adri were already riding out of sight when we hit the Coastal straight.
Ivan started pulling and we all hung on trying to keep pace.
Sean decided to pull away and I follow suit with BFG behind me.
Even behind Sean, I can feel the strong headwind, thus I was wondering how Sean felt taking on the headwind head-to-head.
The speed felt like 36km, but I was surprised that the speedometer registered 29.6km!
Effort of 36kmh to create a 30kmh speed. Really pray that we do not face that kind of situation in Busselton.
When the peloton caught up with us, I was surprised that I still have the energy to pull away!
Did a solo ride all the way to Belungkor!!!
The legs were feeling extremely fresh!!!
Must have been the good night's sleep or the lactic acid flush.
A check on the time shows that I will make it to entrance to Tg. Belungkor before 9am.
No reason to "siam" the additional distance. =p
Had a GU Roctane, 2 Red Bull before I decided to take the plunge.
I activated Salonpas even though I did not feel any cramps, in case it comes during Belungkor.
When you no longer fear the slopes, it truly helps...
Reached end of Belungkor and had 2 mini Bananas, 2 jelly cubes, 1 100-Plus before making the journey back out to Route 92.
Took another break on Route 92 before we moved on.
1 salt pill and more Salonpas.
At the 105km mark, I started a system check.
Legs were feeling as fresh as it was back in the morning at the hotel... Woohoo!!!
Even the rolling hills far in the distance din manage to frighten me.
No cramps threatening whatsoever.
At 115km, my spirit was starting to break.
The left foot was hurting on the same exact pressure point despite a change of cycling shoes.
(Haha, I bought a extra full set of cycling kit for Day 2)
It was pulling some veins along my lower leg.
Decided to throw the bike aside and unbuckle the shoe to let the foot breathe.
Apply tons of Salonpas on the pressure point and it helps.
A support vehicle, BFG, Sam and Jon pulled up and we have an impromptu break.
A few kms later, we stopped at the water point which is opposite Petronas.
YKK offered me a Kit-Kat and I took it happily.
Took half a stick and left the rest on the table for other riders. ;)
Was longing for the Coke on the support table, but din ask for it as I was not sure if it is for the riders.
(It din occur to me that the Kit-Kats and Coke were bought from Petronas by the other riders!)
FOTR and MAMILS rode off together.
We got split up by the rolling hills and soon we were hitting the busy roads of Route 3.
Saw Sam at one of the roadside stalls and I pulled over.
Sam is having pressure points on both feet and I offered him my Salonpas.
The left foot had not been bothering me since 105km, but I decided to take off my left shoe and take a rest.
FOTR pulled up and MAMIL rode back to search for Sam.
FOTR and MAMIL rode off in a peloton and we decided to ride into town together.
When I din see the 2 riders behind me, we try to get the group to slow down and Jon took a tumble when his front wheel rub against BFG.
Except for some rashes and a scratched bar tape, all were fine.
We rode into town together, congratulating each other on a job well done.
Had a nice shower before we went for lunch.
After lunch, it was a hop back to Singapore for some well earned rest. =)
*********
I enjoyed this Charity BnB ride tremendously.
It would not have been possible without the kind support from my family and friends who supported me generously for this ride.
Thanks, guys!
The forged friendships, camaraderie and the wonderful support from the volunteers made this event, a wonderful ride!
Thanks, everyone!!!
