Day 80 : 14th September 2011 Musings

Given all the misgivings, I am glad I did Mega Tri.

The results quell my fears somewhat.
9hrs completion. An hour ahead of my estimated timing.

1 hour longer than my Aviva IM 70.3 Singapore results, despite the extra 10km Bike, 6km Run.
How I did it given my poor run form, I do not know.
I have yet have time to think and figure things out.

Extrapolating the results, I may be able to finish IMWA within 16 hours.

Given that fatigue will set in given the extra 2km Swim, 80km Bike, 15km Run, I have to make it a point to make my transitions short.
My transition timings may be the deciding factor whether I can finish IMWA within the cut off time.

That calls for more training within the next 80 days.
No more slacking.
Gotta dig deep and find the motivation to train.
Gotta find the KEY...

----

Many times during the race, I have to switch riding positions just to change gears.
I finally understood why the shifters are on the aerobars.
It is such a hassle... Especially for me as I have to get back to a normal riding position first.

Should I take the plunge and get Ultegra Di-2 now?

----

Only during MegaTri, did I get accustomed to the aerobar position.
It could not have come at a better time...
Phew...

----

I have a long gash across the rear of right knee, pressure hot spots and blisters on both heels and toes. Plus ITB to boot.
How I survived the full 27km run, I do not know...
What I do know is that my mind blocked out the pain to allow me to finish the race.

This is purely a race where my MIND conquers the BODY...

I will need the same INNER STRENGTH for the 226km race.

  1. well done on 2XU mega!! I think the key is proper pacing on the bike :) should feel relatively fresh when starting the run. And good pacing on the first part of the run would help too.
