A back-to-basic triathlon for me.
My first bike, my first set of wheels, my first pair of tri-cycling shoes and my first pair of shades.
There is a hint of nostalgia for this race.
Once in race mode, the difference did not matter at all. :)
****
Left the house at 8am, much to the astonishment of my family.
Reached CarPark F3 and was surprised to find it fairly empty.
Was surprised to see that transition area wasn't packed!!!
Hmm... it is the astronomical fees or the previous bad race experience?
But it should help us competitors as we should have a less congested race.
Once I completed my transition setup, I walk over the the Swim Start.
Gosh, my wave has already been ushered into the waiting area!
Swim was tough. I had a mouthful of sea water with my first shot of fresh air.
Yes, the water is that choppy!
Felt that my race wave is not that packed... Really a good thing.
Turned left at the first buoy, we are swimming straight at the sun.
Visibility is really bad.
Nothing to guide us except the lane rope.
We noticed that the safety canoes are on the left, thus when we see that the third canoe is way to our right, the entire pack did a wild swim towards the right side of their canoe.
Only when the pack nears the canoe did we noticed the second buoy on our left!!!
Aiyoh, why is the buoy lying horizontal!!!
It was not anchored properly!!! MR ORGANISER!!!
Return leg was machiam on the express.
Breaststroke feels like a total waste of energy.
Able to swim back to shore with little effort. =)
After the first lap, I jumped back into the water and get another gulp of sea water...
Haha... forgot how choppy the water is...
With the race waves 15 minutes apart, it was a nice swim...
Learnt my lesson and aim for the left of the third canoe before the second buoy.
Had another shiok shiok return leg...
Never had I enjoy my race swim so much. =D
Did a super long T1.
Took two pack of GU Gels.
Took me a while to find my cycling legs...
Gosh, did I really push myself hard during the swim?
Felt extremely good on the bike...
Had not enjoy OSIM Triathlon so much till now.
Saw a pool of blood and a rider resting under the tree with Daniel, the Race Director attending to him.
He has a lot of blood under his chin, but he looks cheerful and chatting jovially to Daniel.
End of the first lap, I was shocked to see a Security personnel doing the Moonwalk across the checkpoint and letting pedestrians walk across the bike route while we are riding past!
When I rode past him, I shouted out "Are you crazy?"
Was starting to feel the strains on my thighs.
I forgot my salt pills!!!!
Near the end of the second lap, a rider was swinging wildly on the bike route to remove his feet from his shoes. Had to warn him when I rode past him...
At the beginning of the third lap, another rider ride wobbly trying to wear his tri shoes.
Hmm... these two incidents made me wonder if it is really worthwhile for them to wear cycling shoes on the move???
They not only put themselves at risk, they also put other riders at risk...
Had my third pack of GU gel.
Gosh, I really missed my salt pills...
Was reaching the end of my third lap when a rider shouted out from behind.
"Nice pair of compression!"
Haha, it is Willie of Runner's Gait. =D
Was extremely surprised to feel hunger pangs...
Had my fourth pack of gel!!!
This is probably the most number of gels I took for OSIM Triathlon!
Finish my Bike leg and walk to my transition...
I think I left the legs on the bike route...
Again... this is something I never experience before...
Did I push myself too hard on the bike?
Change into running shoes, making sure I am correctly dressed and off I go for my run.
Took me 2.5km to find my legs again...
Saw a runner lying in a pool of blood!!!
Other runners are attending to him.
At the end of my first loop, I took my fifth gel!
Hope this is my last gel... This is really gross....
5 gels for a Standard Distance Triathlon!!! How many gels will I have to consume for my IM?
Ismail joined me and we chat and run together for the next 3km.
Ismail is doing his first OSIM OD Tri, his first OD Tri being Bintan.
Hmm... exactly what I did 3 years ago! =)
Daniel is attending to the fallen runner.
Boy, a busy day for Daniel.
While Ismail stayed to check on what happen to the fallen runner, I wish Ismail all the best and continue on my home run.
Completed the race feeling awesome, but disappointed with the race timing somewhat.
Oh well.... treat this as training bah...
5 GU Gels!!!
