Day 267 : 11th March 2011 Running

Cannot let such a fine weathered day slipped by.
Decided to put on my running shoes and went for a run.

Feeling good, I decided to run a new route...
One that has been rated as crazy by me previously...

Zoo or Ulu Sembawang Park Connector?
Decided to try Ulu Sembawang Park Connector while there is still daylight... =)

I rate myself having a good chance of taking the public transport back once I reach my destination. =D

Running along Mandai Road, I feel like The Lonely Runner.
Opps... that nickname has been taken...
Ok... The Lonely (Fat) Triathlete. =D

The pavement is in bad condition... The path is moist and is strewn with leaves. Fences are collapsing.
Running past Sembawang Golf Club, I feel naked...
Maybe I shall wear a SF helmet in the future.
The chances of getting struck by a runaway golf ball looks like a reality...

Pace is good. I resist looking at the watch.
The Distance Beep and Vibration is all that I need to keep me going. =)
It feels good to feel the vibes... Another km done. =)

Turning into the Park Connector, I feared for my own safety...
This stretch of the Park Connector does not have street lamps.
Supcon will probably be the first person I will call in times of danger (provided I still have my phone), as he is the only one I knew who has ran this route.

It turned out that the 2nd stretch of the park connector ran alongside an orchard, all the way to the expressway. =)

This park connector is so tranquil that it reminded me of the Ulu Pandan Park Connector...

I am getting used to running alone...
No pressure just run...

Out of the park connector, I made my way across the Expressway Underpass...
To my dismay, there was no zebra crossing across to the other side of the road after the expressway...
Kinda defeat the purpose of having a pedestrian crossing at the Expressway Underpass, right?
Waited a long time for the traffic to clear before I am able to cross the road.

Staring down Woodlands Ave 12, you can literally see the trees and fences converged...
The road is so long and straight that it is intimidating, but I felt no fear...

Is this what an Ironman is all about? You learn to conquer...
Conquer your fear, conquer the unknown...
I am beginning to enjoy the whole experience...
It is like what every Ironman has told me...
It is not about the race itself...
You enjoy the process of training for an Ironman, the race is just a finale... =)

Analysing IMNZ has taught me a number of things...
That the weather is unpredictable...
That you may have to race the entire distance in wet weather condition.
That if I still do not conquer my running, I am officially IMScrewed (IMS)...
PS Sim missed the Bike Cut-Off by minutes.
Her forte is her run.
With her 6:06h run, she clocked in at 16:44h.

Had a chat with a friend recently, I reckoned I will do a 2hr swim, 8hr bike, 8hr run... IMS...
Whoever said an Ironman is easy-peasy, right?
I will have to shave 1.5 hrs off my target just to meet the IM Cut-Off Time!

Back to the run...

The straight road get chomped up at a healthy pace. =)
At the end of the straight road, my left knee started to hurt...
With such an important race next week, I decided to end my run and walk home... =)
Resist the temptation to take a bus/MRT.
I need to test my own endurance when it comes to the crunch.

This run has taught me that I will probably need a pair of shoes in my Special Needs Bag.
It will be best if I bring along Salonpas for next week's race.
That I run better in a running tee.
That there is no substitute for Newton Running Shoes.
That Phiten always helps... =)

*****

Woke up on Saturday with a running nose. Haiz... why does this always have to happen on weekends.
Plonked down Piriton and I am back to sleep.
