Woke up to a dark and gloomy morning.
Decided to pack up and go for the Open Water Swim nonetheless... BSKL...
While walking to the car, it started to drizzle...
The rain got heavier and I wonder how many swimmers will turn up for the swim...
We do have a healthy crowd! All the hard-cored athletes =D
Interestingly, the rain stopped just as the swim got underway...
A warm-up lap before David conduct his briefing.
I started the swim doing a nice and slow freestyle...
Was just admiring my own strokes and kicking when I noticed that all the swimmers pulled steadily away...
It is time to play catch up!
Aiyoh... u see swimmers started taking shortcuts...
My guess is none of them wanna be the last to be out of the water...
No worries, guys... That honour belongs to me...
During the briefing, pointers were given on how to survive the swim on race day.
Then it is off for the swim...
3 small laps, 4 big laps...
After the first small lap, the group started to thin...
I got clustered with another 3 swimmers during the second and third small lap.
Out of the water for the U-turn run on the shore, David read my timing... 20 mins...
Ok... Now I am officially HIMS...
I am now in danger of missing my cut-off time for next week's race...
I started to shake the other three swimmers off and had a quiet swim for the first and second big laps...
I am starting to enjoy this. =D No stress, just swim...
On the start of my third lap, a huge school of fishes swim past me...
Wah... just like that? The entire school overtook me? Faintz....
How did the group stay in such close formation in the first place?
I started my mental calculation again... I am slightly more than halfway into my 3rd big lap when the swimmers completed their swim...
Hmm... very few swimmers are getting onshore...
A lot of swimmers seems to be going for a fifth lap...
When I ended my 4th lap, David announced 59 mins...
Well, I guess when race day comes around, things will work out.
One thing is for sure.
No matter how good your gears are, it is the power plant that counts...

Driving home via Mandai, I was amazed by the distance I covered on Friday.
It does not look much to most runners, but for me... Boy oh boy, it seems very far...
Haha... now I harboured thoughts of two routes that I wanted to do...
Always on my mind, but now I am starting to believe that it is possible... ;)

Going to sleep, images of the Japanese Tsunami keep playing in my mind...
The number 10,000 keep playing in my mind...
Imagine a tsunami hitting Singapore when Aviva Ironman Singapore 70.3 is underway...
We could easily lost a few hundred PMETs with a few minutes...
If you think that triathletes are strong swimmers, do one recall the dragonboat incident a few years ago?
A few dragonboaters drowned when their boat capsized...
During the 2004 Tsunami, if not for the landbase of Sumatra taking most of the impact, Singapore would have been affected.
A bit far-fetched, yes... But things are always unpredictable...

Why is it always so hard to drag myself out of the house.
Too much fear instilled or just plain lazy?
Should I start questioning myself about what-if something happens to me while I am out training or should I be telling myself about what-if I do not train for my races...
